Abstract: In modern urban environments, efficient waste management is crucial for maintaining cleanliness, reducing environmental impact, and optimizing resource utilization. This paper presents a Smart Waste Management System leveraging object detection techniques using Python. The proposed system employs computer vision algorithms to identify and classify waste types (e.g., organic, recyclable, non-recyclable) in real- time, facilitating automated sorting at the source. By integrating machine learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks (CNNs), the system can accurately detect and categorize various waste items. The s ystem's automation reduces human intervention, minimizes contamination of recyclables, and enhances the efficiency of waste segregation processes. The implementation uses Python-based libraries such as TensorFlow and OpenCV, enabling real-time processing and scalability.
